We had spoken with them at the beginning of the year and wanted to learn more about them.

Hands of Peace empowers American, Israeli and Palestinian high school students to become agents of change and it’s only the beginning. After their first-year experience as a “Hand” there’s more leadership experiences to explore. How do they do this? Each summer, Hands of Peace brings American, Israeli, and Palestinian youth together in Chicago and San Diego for a three-week experience. In dialogue sessions led by professional facilitators from the Middle East. The teens learn about “the other,” they share complicated and sometimes painful stories about the conflict, and explore peaceful solutions to foster equality, freedom and justice.

The participants stay with host families in the local areas and are provided a homey atmosphere forming friendships that can last a lifetime. After the summer program, they are encouraged to join the 750 Hands of Peace alumni for additional engaging leadership experiences.

In the four-part series, in Part I, we’ll first speak with staff and host families about the organization and their experiences. Learn how the young people’s lives are changed forever.

In Part II, we’ll speak with first year “Hands” who are participants from Summer 2022. Hear how they meet with the “other” for the first time and discover to their surprise, they have similar needs and desires.

In Part III we meet with alumni who have participated from throughout the twenty years of Hands of Peace’s existence. Learn about how their experiences at Hands of Peace impacted their lives and continues to do so as adults.

In Part IV we will tell the terror Israelis and Palestinians go through and what Hands of Peace participants learn in their dialogue sessions discovering the impact of fear and terror on their daily lives, often for the first time.
